26th July 2010 / Interviews / Daredevil

No funny headline pun, this time — I was interviewed last week by the team at the Speak of the Devil podcast, a DAREDEVIL-focused show from some of the guys (and ardent DD fans!) behind Legion of Dudes.

We talked about everything from DD to SHADOWLAND: BLOOD ON THE STREETS, WASTELAND, DEAD SPACE, even the differences between creator- and company-owned books, and generally had a very enjoyable chat.

You can get it on iTunes, or download it directly from the Legion of Dudes website.

24th July 2010 / Dead Space

Another day, another DEAD SPACE project, this time announced during a panel at San Diego Comic-Con.

The project is DEAD SPACE: SALVAGE, a self-contained graphic novel. Billed as a “sidequel”, SALVAGE takes place between the first and second DEAD SPACE games and tells the story of the missing, necromorph-infested planetcracker USG Ishimura. Presumed lost and drifting somewhere in the Aegis system , the ship is discovered by a band of ‘magpies’ — unlicensed miners and salvage merchants — who quickly realise it’s not the bountiful haul they were hoping for.

DEAD SPACE: SALVAGE is illustrated by Christopher Shy, published by IDW, and will be available later this year.

21st July 2010 / Dead Space

Some new details about DEAD SPACE IGNITION are surfacing, including screenshots of the comic art and mini-games. IGN seems to have the most screenshots of all the places talking about it.

Hopefully I’ll be able to fill everyone in on some more details myself as things get rolling.

ADDENDUM: Joystiq has now published a more detailed article than their original coverage, with a closer look at one of the minigames and a full complement of screenshots.

ADDENDUM 2: I’ve been given the all-clear by EA. More details on IGNITION here.

19th July 2010 / Interviews / Pre-order / Shadowland

Issue #1 of SHADOWLAND: BLOOD ON THE STREETS goes on sale next month.

Now, Comic Book Resources takes a look at the series’ four major players — Silver Sable, Misty Knight, Paladin and The Shroud — from the perspective of the NYPD’s Lt Rafe Scarfe, as part of their ongoing Shadowland feature The Unusual Suspects.

Remember, books like this live and die by pre-orders and advance interest. If you want to read BLOOD ON THE STREETS, if you want to make sure your retailer has copies, if you want to support these characters and increase the chances of them showing up again… please tell your retailer that you want the series, and even pre-order it if you’re able. The order code for issue #1 is JUN100581.

19th July 2010 / Appearances

It’s that time of year when everyone is posting their San Diego Comic-Con schedules, and I’m no exception… normally. Except this year, I won’t be going.

No great conspiracy or anything, here — I’ve attended SDCC every year for what feels like forever, and I do enjoy it, but I simply want a year off from the exhausting long haul travel1 and hullabaloo. I don’t have anything significant to promote, or panels to appear on, so this is as good a year as any.

Doubtless I’ll be back in 2011. And later this year I’ll be attending GDCOnline, New York Comic Con, MCM Expo and Thought Bubble, all in the space of about seven weeks. So, there’s that.

1 Travelling to SD takes me the best part of 24 hours — 13 hours in the air, plus another 4-6 hours getting to/from/around airports, through US immigration, and so on. It’s… not a pleasant journey at the best of times.

14th July 2010 / On Sale / Daredevil / Shadowland

As mentioned at the weekend, this week sees the release of DAREDEVIL #508 — today, in fact, if you live in North America.

This is the first part of In The Shadows, the arc which will show readers the ‘other side’ of the SHADOWLAND event, with more emphasis on Matt Murdock, his friends, and the trouble they all find themselves in as DD spirals out of control. Here’s the solicit:

Matt Murdock has long played judge and jury to criminals as Daredevil, but has he now become executioner as well?! SHADOWLAND takes over Daredevil and his friends aren’t about to stand by and lose him on the path he seems destined for. A major player joins the battle as Hell’s Kitchen is about to live up to its name once more!

The order code is MAY100590, it’s on sale in all the usual places, and you can read a preview at CBR.

10th July 2010 / Dead Space / Wasteland / On Sale / Daredevil / Shadowland

Typical. I go on vacation for a week, and it all kicks off. While I was away…

WASTELAND

WASTELAND #29 went on sale. This is the fourth part of the “Enemy Within” story arc, and is a big issue for several reasons. First, here’s the solicit:

The ENEMY WITHIN story arc continues, and this issue Watchman Dexus is in the spotlight! Recent times have been tough for Dexus, as his attempts to control the Newbegin council have apparently come to nought. Now things are about to get even trickier… but the Watchman is nothing if not devious, and the Sunner rebellion might be just the help he needs.

The order code is MAR101107.

Second, this issue marks the departure of regular artist Christopher Mitten, who’s moving on to creative pastures new. Filling his inestimable boots is Remington Veteto, a fresh-faced graduate of SCAD.

Finally, we’ve revamped the official website, thebigwet.com — with a funky new look, cleaner layout, and better organization.

DEAD SPACE

Next up is the news that, yes, I’m working in the DEAD SPACE universe once again. DEAD SPACE IGNITION is an interactive fiction/motion comic/game/experiment that lays the groundwork for next year’s DEAD SPACE 2 with a brand new story, characters, locations and events.

IGNITION will be released this fall, for download on XBLA and PSN. More information on that as and when it’s available.

DAREDEVIL

In DAREDEVIL news, SHADOWLAND #1 went on sale this week, written by Andy Diggle and kicking off this summer’s DD-centric event. You can read a preview of it here

…And you can also read a preview of DAREDEVIL #508, by Andy and myself. #508 is the first issue of the “In The Shadows” story arc that runs alongside SHADOWLAND itself, and goes on sale next week.

And that’s all she wrote. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have a couple of hundred unread emails to plough through…

13th June 2010 / On Sale / Daredevil

So, um, DAREDEVIL #507 went on sale this week, and I completely forgot to mention it here. Whoops. Things are a little hectic right now, which may not be much of an excuse but is certainly one hell of an understatement.

(More on that as and when I’m able — bloody NDAs, sorry — but suffice to say, it’s been pretty much non-stop since about December last year…)

So: This is the final part of the Left Hand Path story arc, and lays the foundations for In The Shadows, which takes place during this summer’s event, SHADOWLAND. Plenty of action, a few answers, and a few new questions. Here’s the solicit:

LEFT HAND PATH concludes as the enemy faced by Daredevil in Japan is revealed as a precursor to the much larger threat awaiting him back in New York. Shadowland is coming…And it will change Matt Murdock forever!

And, because this update is so tardy, I can tell you with confidence that it’s been very well received so far…!

The order code is APR100572, and it’s (still!) on sale in all the usual places.

10th May 2010 / Pre-order / Shadowland

If you follow me on Twitter, you’ve seen me refer a few times recently to an unannounced project known only as $SECRETMARVELBOOK. Well, the secret is out.

SHADOWLAND: BLOOD ON THE STREETS is a miniseries that will run parallel to SHADOWLAND itself later this year. It’s a street-level noir-ish mystery featuring four cult favourite characters: Misty Knight, The Shroud, Silver Sable and Paladin.

Four very different heroes, thrown together when they discover a series of events that Daredevil won’t acknowledge: the Hand is killing low-rent mobsters throughout New York, without trial or recourse.

Illustrated by the fantastic Wellinton Alves (who also drew a story for me in YUGGOTH CREATURES, way back when!), BLOOD ON THE STREETS is monthly, and begins in August. You can read more about the book, the characters and how I came to be writing it, and see some teaser art, at…

Newsarama

…and of course I’ll keep everyone updated here and on Twitter.

(Yes, there was a date embargo on all these interviews. How did you guess?)

10th May 2010 / On Sale / Daredevil

In place of a regular issue, this week sees the release of DAREDEVIL: CAGE MATCH, a one-shot story featuring a showdown between the Man Without Fear, and the Hero For Hire!

Before the Shadowland comes, we look back at a bit of brutal history between Luke Cage and Daredevil, revealing a mutual respect that may soon be torn asunder.

That’s the solicit, but to be honest it over-eggs the pudding a little — this story is really just a bit of fun, an homage to the classic Stan Lee-era Daredevil, and a chance to do some character exploration with these two iconic heroes… while they kick the crap out of one another. Good, clean fun, as you can see in this six-page preview at Comic Book Resources.

The issue order code is MAR100529, and it’s out on Wednesday (Thursday in Europe).
